GMHP Backs Mayor’s Vision for 50,000 Affordable Homes Across Greater Manchester

Mayor of Greater Manchester Bev Craig visited GMHP member’s Jigsaw Homes Group’s new Stamford Street development in Ashton‑under‑Lyne, where 35 new social rent homes have been delivered on brownfield land with support from GMCA’s Affordable Homes Programme and Brownfield Housing Fund. The Mayor used the visit to announce a new housing plan to deliver 50,000 council, social and genuinely affordable homes by 2039, including 10,000 homes built, on site, or in the pipeline by May 2028. 

GMHP continues to play a central role in accelerating the delivery of affordable homes across Greater Manchester.  Over the past three years, GMHP members have delivered 6,500 affordable homes. In 2025/26 alone, GMHP had 2,300 affordable homes secure planning approval, more than 2,900 homes starting on site, and over 3,200 completed and made available for residents. As part of the Greater Manchester Strategy, we continue to work with our Tripartite Agreement partners to ensure that, alongside increasing supply, we are delivering safe, secure and healthy homes that support residents’ wellbeing. 

GMHP fully supports the Mayor’s focus on increasing social and affordable housing supply, improving quality, and ensuring homes contribute to people’s health and wellbeing. As a partnership of 28 Registered Housing Providers, we are committed to working with councils and public sector partners to deliver the homes local people need.
