Transforming housing standards

GMHP landlords have signed up to Greater Manchester’s Good Landlord Charter and have been working with the Charter team to agree the assessment framework. Alongside this work, GMHP continues to drive improvements in housing standards while delivering one of the region’s most ambitious decarbonisation and retrofit programmes.

The next stage of the Good Landlord Charter is to agree the assessment process and how it will be rolled out across Greater Manchester. The Charter is designed to raise housing standards across Greater Manchester and ensure a consistent level of service for tenants, whether they rent from a private or social landlord.

Alongside this work, our partnership has delivered some of its most ambitious and impactful retrofit activity to date. Together, we successfully completed Social Housing Decarbonisation Fund (SHDF) Wave 1, a £15 million programme that delivered 2,304 retrofit measures across 819 homes. Building on that momentum, we are now well under way with Wave 2.1, a £97 million programme that will improve the energy efficiency of more than 4,000 homes.

Looking ahead, Wave 3.1 is already in motion, with £10 million secured to deliver energy-efficiency improvements to a further 1,700 homes.

The Decarbonisation Group is also assessing the implications of the new national Warm Homes Plan and opportunities to maximise funding through the recently announced solar PV fund, with further details expected to follow. The group is also exploring private funding models to help accelerate retrofit programmes across Greater Manchester.
