Open Kitchen MCR provide Greater Manchester’s most sustainable catering option. Our social enterprise works with a huge range of food businesses to intercept perfectly edible food that will otherwise go to waste.
We offer a wide range of catering options from simple sandwich platters, to hot food, to canapes and more formal dining, all using beautiful ingredients that will otherwise go to waste. Our service reduces food waste and supports the city-region’s targets to move towards carbon neutrality.
This “for profit” work also subsidises our work in the community, supporting people in crisis with hot, nutritious meals, food and supplies.

Based in Chorlton, our service covers most of Greater Manchester, and beyond. Delivery area is affected by value of order.
Social Value
By purchasing catering from our social enterprise, our customers are helping to lower Greater Manchester’s carbon footprint, by reducing food waste. Orders through our catering service also subsidise our community not for profit work.
Every week we deliver food and supplies to homelessness hostels, independent food banks, and provide hot nutritious meals to people in crisis through our work with small, local front-line support groups.
Case Study
Open Kitchen MCR currently provide meeting and event catering for Onward Homes and Great Places Housing Group. As a result, in 2019 over 42 tonnes of perfectly edible food and household items that would have gone to waste were intercepted, and 1,440 hot, nutritious meals were provided to people in crisis.
