Case Study
As a Health and Safety team carrying out building audits, we were continually frustrated that, year after year, the same issues were being highlighted in our more difficult to manage buildings. Statutory checks were not being carried out at all or were completed sporadically. Despite raising the issue within the business it was very difficult to manage, particularly with front line staff increasingly being withdrawn from dispersed buildings, such as community centres.
We tried various approaches, including using our emergency out of hours team to complete the checks, but the scope of work was too large for them to cope and issues persisted.
In February 2017 we appointed our social enterprise subsidiary company Starts with You to complete the checks and things have changed dramatically. With the support of their dedicated team our audits are completed on a weekly, monthly and quarterly rota and we can be 100% sure that ALL statutory checks have been carried out and recorded. As part of the service SWY also ensure that any issues or concerns identified during their site visits are reported to us in a timely manner for us to action.
As well as providing reliable, customer focused services SWY are also a Social Enterprise, so we know they are doing good in our local communities. Amongst many other things we value that SWY re-invest 100% of their profits into the business or gift aid to charity, are a Real Living Wage employer, recruiting of 35% of staff from the long term unemployed and 80% from within Bolton.
